Richard’s introduction to martial arts was at the age of 15 at Hanshi Steve Arneil’s Kyokushinkai dojo in Crystal Palace where he trained for three years before going to Bristol University.  There, he trained for a year each in Wado-Ryu and Shorinji Kempo before finally discovering DKK under the guidance of Shihan Dan Lewis. On moving back to London, Richard joined DKK London under Shihan Gavin Mulholland.

“Through DKK, I have been given the opportunity to push myself beyond what I thought were my limits and achieve what I thought was beyond me to achieve. Richard was awarded Shodan-Ho in 2005 and achieved full Shodan at Summer School in June 2006. In 2015 he graded to Nidan after completing an extensive grading and kumite line-up.
