Mike Thornton, 2nd Dan

Mike joined DKK in 2007 as a black belt in Taekwondo and badged to Shodan Ho in 2009.

"I started training in martial arts in New Zealand, where I achieved the grade of first Dan in International Tae Kwon Do.  Coming to London afterwards I tried different styles, some good some bad, none totally comprehensive in training fighters. In 2007 I was fortunate enough to find DKK London, a Goju Ryu Karate club, it trained stand up and ground fighting. Although a traditional martial arts club I learned this was the way the system had always trained. I was impressed with the level and focus of the students, at both the high and low grades and with the teaching style of Sensei Mulholland. Past the physical, Goju Karate continuously presents its students with the challenge of mastering the relationship between hard/soft in training, a provocative challenge and one I will pursue from now on."

In 2010 Mike was awarded the grade of full Shodan with DKK after successfully completing the grading at the annual DKK Summer Camp. He completed the 30 Man Kumite succesfully in 2015, gaining the grade of Nidan.
