Jake Hoban, 2nd Dan

Jake did some Judo as a child but then forgot all about martial arts until the age of 32, when he decided he needed a new challenge and stumbled across DKK. He joined DKK in 2004.

“From the start I found it scary and intriguing in equal measure. Ten years later I've learned a lot but the fear and fascination are still there, which is part of what keeps me coming back. Martial arts are often said to build confidence. A greater benefit in my view is humility – the ability to accept that you don't know that much, there is always someone better than you and you just need to keep trying to improve. Done properly, as I think it is at DKK, karate is training for life.”

Jake achieved the grade of Shodan-ho at Summer School 2011 and graded to full Shodan at Summer School 2012. In 2015 he was awarded his 2nd Dan after succesfully completing the 30 Man Kumite.
