Gavin Mulholland - Combat Hall of Fame

Gavin Mulholland began his training at an early age alongside his three brothers under the tutelage of their father who was teaching judo and unarmed combat in the British Forces throughout the 1960's.

After witnessing Kyoshi Kim Roberts demonstrating Goju Ryu in the 1970's, Gavin became an immediate convert and trains with him to this day.

Thirty years on and Gavin has traveled extensively throughout Asia, training in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and China in a variety of martial arts as diverse as Aikido, Judo, MFS, Ju-Jitsu and Kyokushinkai.

However, as an holistic fighting art, Goju already incorporates elements from virtually every other system and Gavin has remained within the Goju framework.

Gavin was awarded the rank of Godan in 2002 by the one time student of E'ichi Miyazato, Shihan Rick Woodhams of the Okinawan Martial Arts Association. Kyoshi Kim of the Sobo Bukai No Kai subsequently awarded Gavin the title of 'Shihan'.

Gavin has made several TV and film appearances, published numerous articles on the Martial Arts, and was a regular instructor for Meido Ltd, a company specialising in Bodyguard, Close Protection and Door Supervisor courses throughout the UK.

Sensei Gavin Mulholland is Chief Instructor for Daigaku Karate Kai alongside Sensei Dan Lewis of the Bristol University Combat Goju Ryu Karate Club.
