DKK Fighters

While our primary focus is on combat not competition, there is benefit to be had from facing another human being in a non-cooperative and non-structured, (or at least limited structure), manner.

As such we have two main avenues where students have the opportunity to test themselves in this way.

Cage Fighting

In the last decade a system known as MMA came into fashion. These guys train to fight full-on in a cage environment.

While there is never any pressure on our students to compete in these events, several have nonetheless chosen to test themselves in this extreme challenge.

Neil Grove is currently enjoying some success in the cage and remains undefeated having won his last five fights in a row - three of them in under one minute.

Neil 'Goliath' Grove has been with DKK for eight years and currently holds the rank of Shodan. His most impressive win was in August 2007 when he was called up to fight in Cage Rage 22 in Wembley Arena on just two days notice. Neil had to face seasoned Cage Rage and Pride fighter James Colossus Thompson and knocked him out in just 10 seconds of the first round

Edgeleson Lua has been with DKK for around 18 months achieving green belt rank and winning with an impressive first round knockout in Cage Rage Contenders 8 in February 2008.

Both men will be back in the cage throughout 2008.

The Ed Ball Memorial Tournament
Once a year we run our own tournament in memory of one of our students who sadly passed away some years ago aged just 18. The Ed Ball Memorial Tournament is open to all grades and has different rules and impact levels dependent upon grade and experience.
  • Novice grades (up to and including Orange Belt fight in a semi-contact points format.
  • Intermediate grades (up to and including Brown Belts) fight in the same fashion but with more contact allowed.
  • Black Belts fight in a full contact continuous format.
  • There is also a submission grappling component to the tournament.
