The Club
The London branch of Daigaku Karate Kai was started by Shihan Gavin Mulholland in the basement of the University of Westminster back in the late eighties.

The style of karate practised is Okinawan Goju Ryu: a style which places heavy emphasis on close quarter practicality and effectiveness.

Training at the club is therefore combat oriented and is not geared up to sport or competition fighting which require a completely different mindset and set of skills.

The club at Westminster University continues throughout the year, even during University breaks.

You do not have to be a University student to train and students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Indeed, we have everything from Brickies to Bankers and a good mix of both men and women training regularly, (no children!).

The majority of senior students have experience in security work and of the twenty Black Belts pictured above, seventeen have experience in other systems - including Dan grades in a variety of arts including Kyokoshinkai, Jujitsu, Modern Fighting Systems (MFS), Kobudo and Arnis.

Timetable:
Classes are on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.30-9.30pm, in the basement of the Westminster University site located at 309 (upper) Regents Street, (2 mins from Oxford Circus tube). New members, experienced or otherwise, are very welcome to join or visit at any time.
