Luke Wilcox, 1st Dan
Luke’s martial arts training began at the age of 10, with judo and shokokai karate. At university, Luke transferred his interests to Chinese martial arts, studying wing chun (in which he became an instructor), xingyi and bagua. After a break of a few years while he completed his academic studies, Luke returned to martial arts in 2016, trying out a number of clubs before finding his “home” in DKK and Okinawan goju. He has seldom missed a session since.
“In DKK and Shihan Mulholland, I found exactly what I was looking for in a martial arts association. DKK has a strong focus on self defence and combat effectiveness – the DKK way has been tested in a number of formats including security, law enforcement, and the cage, and I have no doubt at all about its real world efficacy. It is a complete system, incorporating everything from striking, to grappling, to groundfighting, to multiples and weapons work. We even explore bushcraft and survival skills! That material is presented in a systematic and structured way, strongly rooted in principles and guided by the kata of the system, of which the Shihans have an astonishing depth of understanding. On top that, the people who make up DKK are just a joy to spend time with. What more could you ask for!”
Having joined the club in 2016, Luke earned the coveted DKK badge at the end of 2017, achieved his shodan-ho probationary black belt in 2021, and converted to full shodan in 2022.
